Abstract
High quality coke products made in horizontal ovens such as heat recovery, non-recovery or Thompson ovens from an optimized coal blend. The coke products have unique properties such as an oblong shape and improved Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) and Coke Reactivity Index (CRI) properties.

A coke having an oblong shape, wherein the length:width ratio of the coke is at least 1.1, at least 1.5, at least 2.0, at least 2.5, at least 3.0, at least 3.5, at least 4.0, at least 4.5, at least 5.0, at least 5.5, at least 6.0, at least 6.5, at least 7.0, at least 7.5, at least 8.0, at least 8.5, at least 9.0, at least 9.5, or at least 10.0.
A population of coke products produced from a single production process or from a single oven, wherein at least 30%, at least 35%, at least 40%, at least 45%, at least 50%, at least 55%, at least 60%, at least 65%, at least 70%, at least 75%, at least 80%, at least 85%, at least 90%, at least 95%, at least 98%, or at least 99% of the total coke has an oblong shape, wherein the length is between 2 and 36 inches, between 3 and 15 inches, between 4 and 12 inches, or between 4 and 10 inches and the width is between 1.5 and 12 inches, between 2 and 8 inches, between 3 and 7 inches, between 2 and 4 inches, or between 4 and 6 inches, or the length:width ratio is at least 1.1, at least 1.5, at least 2.0, at least 2.5, at least 3.0, at least 3.5, at least 4.0, at least 4.5, at least 5.0, at least 5.5, at least 6.0, at least 6.5, at least 7.0, at least 7.5, at least 8.0, at least 8.5, at least 9.0, at least 9.5, or at least 10.0.
A population of coke products produced from a single production process or from a single oven, wherein at least 40%, at least 45%, at least 50%, at least 55%, at least 60%, at least 65%, at least 70%, at least 75%, at least 80%, at least 85%, at least 90%, at least 95%, at least 98%, or at least 99% of the total foundry coke has an oblong shape, wherein the length is between 2 and 36 inches, between 3 and 15 inches, between 4 and 12 inches, or between 4 and 10 inches and the width is between 1.5 and 12 inches, between 2 and 8 inches, between 3 and 7 inches, between 2 and 4 inches, or between 4 and 6 inches, or the length:width ratio is at least 1.1, at least 1.5, at least 2.0, at least 2.5, at least 3.0, at least 3.5, at least 4.0, at least 4.5, at least 5.0, at least 5.5, at least 6.0, at least 6.5, at least 7.0, at least 7.5, at least 8.0, at least 8.5, at least 9.0, at least 9.5, or at least 10.0.
A coke having a hydraulic diameter (Dh) greater than the actual diameter of the coke, wherein the coke has a Coke Reactivity Index (CRI) between 20% and 45% and a Coke Strength after Reaction (CSR) between 5% and 60%.
