An adhesive containing a solid content, wherein the solid content comprises:
- cellulose;
- and
- carboxy methyl cellulose endowed with a carboxy methyl group.

A water-based adhesive, comprising:
- a first cellulose having cellulose fibers endowed with a phosphoric acid functional group;
- and
- a second cellulose having cellulose fibers endowed with a carboxy methyl group,
- wherein each of the first cellulose and the second cellulose is contained in an amount up to about 5% by weight of the water-based adhesive.
