Abstract
Provided are a superabsorbent polymer composition, and a preparation method thereof. More particularly, provided are a superabsorbent polymer, of which a high absorption rate and excellent gel strength are improved at the same time by using specific additives in combination during polymerization, and a preparation method thereof.
Claims12
A method of preparing a superabsorbent polymer, the method comprising:
- crosslinking polymerization of a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer having an acidic group of which at least a part is neutralized, in the presence of an epoxy-based internal crosslinking agent, a chelating agent, and a capsule-type foaming agent to form a water-containing gel polymer including a crosslinked polymer;
- drying the water-containing gel polymer to form a base polymer powder;
- and
- surface-crosslinking the base polymer powder by heat treatment in the presence of a surface crosslinking agent,
- wherein the epoxy-based internal crosslinking agent has a weight average molecular weight of 200 kDa to 1,000 kDa, and
- the capsule-type foaming agent has a structure including a core including a hydrocarbon and a shell surrounding the core, wherein the shell is formed by a thermoplastic resin.
