Rigid Needle Shield Remover with Connection Confirmation Feature for Autoinjector

A drug delivery device comprising:

• a housing;
• a syringe comprising a needle and received at least partially within the housing;
• a needle cover comprising a flange at a distal end thereof and having a pre-use position in which the needle is positioned within the needle cover and a use position in which the needle is positioned at least partially outside of the needle cover wherein in the use position the needle cover is configured to actuate the drug delivery device to deliver a medicament;
• and
• a cap assembly comprising a cap remover, a retainer received within the cap remover and a push back element operatively received within the retainer, wherein the push back element is configured to push the retainer in a proximal direction.

A cap assembly for a drug delivery device, the cap assembly comprising:

• a cap remover configured to be grasped by a user;
• a retainer received within the cap remover and configured to engage the flange of the needle cover of the drug delivery device;
• and
• a push back element operatively received within the retainer,
• wherein the push back element is configured to push the retainer in a proximal direction.
