Flexible patch for fluid delivery and monitoring body analytes

An insulin delivery device, comprising:

• a patch comprising a bottom surface having an adhesive for securing the patch to a skin surface of a patient, wherein the patch comprises a long axis and a short axis;
• a pump for delivering insulin to the patient, wherein the pump is coupled to the patch and is arranged along the long axis of the patch, the pump comprising:
• a reservoir configured to store insulin;
• a plunger for moving the insulin out of the reservoir;
• an actuator configured to advance the plunger;
• and
• a cannula in fluid communication with the reservoir and configured to be automatically inserted into an infusion site of the patient to deliver the insulin;
• a power source comprising one or more batteries configured to power the pump;
• and
• a controller and transmitter module coupled to the patch, wherein the controller and transmitter module comprises an antenna configured to wirelessly communicate with a hand-held user interface device, wherein the controller and transmitter module is configured to operate the pump to deliver insulin based on signals received from the hand-held user interface device.

An insulin delivery system, comprising:

• a hand-held user interface device;
• and
• an insulin delivery device in wireless communication with the hand-held user interface device to receive control signals for delivery of insulin, the insulin delivery device comprising:
• a patch comprising a bottom surface having an adhesive for securing the patch to a skin surface of a patient, wherein the patch comprises a long axis and a short axis;
• a pump for delivering insulin to the patient, wherein the pump is coupled to the patch and is arranged along the long axis of the patch, the pump comprising:
• a reservoir configured to store insulin;
• a plunger for moving the insulin out of the reservoir;
• an actuator configured to advance the plunger;
• and
• a cannula in fluid communication with the reservoir and configured to be automatically inserted into an infusion site of the patient to deliver the insulin;
• a power source comprising one or more batteries configured to power the pump;
• and
• a controller and transmitter module coupled to the patch, wherein the controller and transmitter module comprises an antenna configured to wirelessly communicate with the hand-held user interface device, wherein the controller and transmitter module is configured to operate the pump to deliver insulin based on signals received from the hand-held user interface device.
