Abstract
A surgical instrument comprises a member being engageable to a spinal implant configured for connection to a bone fastener shaft. An actuator is connected to the member. A latch is connected to the actuator and the connection is configured to change between at least one non-locked orientation such that the actuator is movable relative to the member and a locked orientation such that the actuator is fixed relative to the member. Systems, spinal constructs, implants and methods are disclosed.

A surgical instrument comprising:
- an outer sleeve having a distal portion, the distal portion including at least one expandable projection being engageable with an inner groove of a spinal rod receiver of a bone fastener;
- an inner shaft having a distal portion translatable relative to the distal portion of the outer sleeve to expand the at least one expandable projection into the inner groove to capture the spinal rod receiver;
- and
- an actuator connected to the inner shaft.
A surgical inserter comprising:
- an outer sleeve having a distal portion, the distal portion including a first expandable projection and a second expandable projection being engageable with an inner groove of a spinal rod receiver of a bone fastener;
- an inner shaft having a distal portion translatable relative to the distal portion of the outer sleeve to expand the expandable projections into the inner groove to capture the spinal rod receiver;
- and
- an actuator connected to the inner shaft.
A surgical system comprising:
- a bone fastener shaft configured for fixation to vertebral tissue;
- a spinal rod receiver configured for connection to the bone fastener shaft;
- and
- a surgical instrument including an outer sleeve and an inner shaft,
- a distal portion of the outer sleeve including at least one expandable projection being engageable with an inner groove of the spinal rod receiver,
- a distal portion of the inner shaft being translatable relative to the distal portion of the outer sleeve to expand the at least one expandable projection into the inner groove to capture the spinal rod receiver, and
- an actuator connected to the inner shaft.
