Abstract
A method and apparatus for group paging in a wireless communication system is provided. A wireless device acquires a specific paging subgroup identifier (ID) related to the wireless device. A wireless device joins a multicast session. A wireless device receives, from a network, a paging early indication (PEI) which does not include the specific paging subgroup ID. A wireless device monitors a paging occasion associated with the PEI, to receive an activation notification for the multicast session.
Claims14
A method performed by a wireless device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising,
- receiving a paging early indication (PEI) configuration for monitoring a PEI occasion per Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycle,
- wherein the PEI occasion is associated with a paging occasion (PO);
- and
- determining a specific subgroup that the wireless device belongs to,
- wherein the specific subgroup is either assigned by a core network (CN) or formed based on an ID of the wireless device;
- (1) based on that the wireless device does not expect a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) group notification:
- monitoring the PEI occasion based on the PEI configuration;
- based on that (i) the wireless device detects a PEI from the PEI occasion and (ii) the PEI indicates the subgroup that the wireless device belongs to, monitoring the PO associated with the PEI occasion;
- and
- based on that (i) the wireless device does not detect a PEI from the PEI occasion or (ii) the PEI does not indicate the subgroup that the wireless device belongs to, skipping monitoring the PO associated with the PEI occasion;
- (2) based on that the wireless device expects the MBS group notification:
- skipping detecting a PEI from the PEI occasion;
- and
- monitoring the PO associated with the PEI.
A wireless device in a wireless communication system comprising:
- a transceiver;
- a memory;
- and
- at least one processor operatively coupled to the transceiver and the memory, and adapted to:
- control the transceiver to receive a paging early indication (PEI) configuration for monitoring a PEI occasion per Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycle,
- wherein the PEI occasion is associated with a paging occasion (PO);
- and
- determine a specific subgroup that the wireless device belongs to,
- wherein the specific subgroup is either assigned by a core network (CN) or formed based on an ID of the wireless device;
- (1) based on that the wireless device does not expect a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) group notification:
- monitor the PEI occasion based on the PEI configuration;
- based on that (i) the wireless device detects a PEI from the PEI occasion and (ii) the PEI indicates the subgroup that the wireless device belongs to, monitor the PO associated with the PEI occasion;
- and
- based on that (i) the wireless device does not detect a PEI from the PEI occasion or (ii) the PEI does not indicate the subgroup that the wireless device belongs to, skip monitoring the PO associated with the PEI occasion;
- (2) based on that the wireless device expects the MBS group notification:
- skip detecting a PEI from the PEI occasion;
- and
- monitor the PO associated with the PEI.
