## Abstract

There is provided a badge adapted for a vehicle that includes a first portion formed from a first injection molded process of light transmissive material and a second portion formed from a second injection molded process of plateable material. The plateable portion provides a chrome exterior of trim. The first portion provides a light-through decoration where the light transmissive material is back lit with at least one lighting element.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of making a badge assembly operably adapted for a vehicle, comprising:
providing at least one injection molding assembly;
providing at least one predetermined light transmissive material that is non-plateable;
providing at least one predetermined plateable material;
providing at least one predetermined third material;
injecting the light transmissive material into a mold operable to form at least one first injection molded portion;
injecting the plateable material into the mold operable to form at least one second injection molded portion operably coupled to the first injection molded portion forming an injection molded assembly; and,
operably applying a predetermined flow of the third material to the injection molding assembly operably to plate the plateable material with said third material.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising providing at least one predetermined plating material path on said injection molding assembly operably adapted to deliver said third material to said at least one second injection molded portion.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said third material is chrome.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising operably providing a predetermined electric current operably adapted for plating said plateable material.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The method of claim 4, wherein said third material is chrome.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein said at least one first portion is operably adapted to provide a light-through decoration where the light transmissive material is back lit with at least one lighting element.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising operably advancing said injection molded assembly operably coupled to a predetermined plating process line where the third material is operably supplied as a predetermined electric current is supplied for plating over said second injection molded portion.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising providing at least one backlighting device operably coupled to the injection molded assembly.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising at least one backlighting source operably coupled adjacent to said at least one first injection molded portion adapted to selectively provide said badge assembly with backlight.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising providing at least one light emitting diode operably coupled to the badge assembly adapted to backlight at least the light transmissive material.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein said at least one light emitting diode is operably embedded in at least one predetermined location adjacent to said light transmissive material.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a plurality of light emitting diodes selectively emitting different colors operably adapted to selectively backlight the light transmissive material.

### Claim 13 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising operably coupling a plurality of light emitting diodes of the same color emitted operably adapted to selectively backlight the first injection molded portion.

### Claim 14

A method of producing a badge assembly operably adapted for a vehicle, comprising the steps of:
providing an injection molding assembly;
providing a chroming line path;
providing a plateable material;
providing a chrome material;
providing a light transmissive material that is non-plateable;
injecting the light transmissive material into a mold to form at least one first injection molded part;
injecting the plateable material into the mold to form at least one second injection molded part operably coupled to the first injection molded part forming an injection molded assembly;
applying a flow of the chrome material to the injection molded assembly to plate the plateable material in the chrome material; and
providing at least one backlighting device operably coupled to the injection molded assembly.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein said backlighting device comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes of the same or different colors emitted operably adapted to selectively backlight the first injection molded portion.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, includes at least one light emitting diode.

### Claim 17

A badge assembly adapted for a motor vehicle, comprising:
at least one first injection molded portion formed of a light transmissive material;
at least one second injection molded portion formed of a plateable material; and
at least one lighting device.

### Claim 18 (depends on 17)

The badge assembly of claim 17, further comprising a chrome material operably provided on said plateable material operably adapted to provide a chrome exterior of trim.

### Claim 19 (depends on 17)

The badge assembly of claim 17, further comprising providing at least one predetermined plating material path on to said plateable material operably adapted to deliver a third material over said plateable material.

### Claim 20 (depends on 17)

The badge assembly of claim 17, wherein the first injection molded portion provides a light-through decoration where the light transmissive material is back lit with the at least one lighting device.
