Abstract
An optical system and method for producing the same comprising molding components including a waveguide directly within a lens, by placing the components within a UV transparent mold.
Claims6
A method for producing an optical system containing a waveguide, the method comprising the steps of, in order:
- a) Modifying the surface of a waveguide,
- b) Aligning elements including the waveguide to be embedded in the optical system, in a cavity formed of at least one ultraviolet light transparent glass material,
- c) Fill the cavity with a liquid monomer,
- d) Cure the monomer using ultraviolet light to form a solid lens containing the embedded elements,
- e) Remove the lens from the cavity,
- f) Apply at least one coating to the lens.
