Abstract
An example medical device may include a first component including an interface, a light feature surrounding at least part of the interface, and a controller coupled to the light feature and including a memory in which are stored instructions for the controller causing a first illumination state of the light feature corresponding to a first state of the interface, and the controller causing a second illumination state of the light feature corresponding to a second state of the interface.

(canceled)
A medical manipulator system comprising:
- a manipulator arm;
- a carriage coupled to a distal portion of the manipulator arm, the carriage configured to removably couple with a medical instrument and transmit drive force to the medical instrument in a coupled state with the medical instrument;
- one or more light indicator features;
- and
- a control system configured to control an illumination state of the one or more light indicator features based on receipt of information about one or more of:
- a connectivity state of a medical instrument and the carriage,
- a configuration state of the manipulator arm,
- a movement state of the manipulator arm,
- a control state of the manipulator arm, or
- a fault condition relating to the manipulator arm.
A method for indicating status of a medical manipulator system comprising a manipulator arm and
- a carriage moveably coupled to the manipulator arm and configured to removably couple with a medical instrument, the method comprising:
- controlling, via a control system, an illumination state of one or more light indicator features on the medical manipulator system,
- wherein the controlling is based on receiving, by the control system, information about one or more of:
- a connectivity state of a medical instrument with the carriage,
- a configuration state of the manipulator arm,
- a movement state of the manipulator arm,
- a control state of the manipulator arm, or
- a fault condition relating to the manipulator arm.
