Abstract
A pump light source includes a light emitting unit, a mode converter, and an optical interface unit. The light emitting unit is configured to output multi-mode pump light. The mode converter is configured to convert the multi-mode pump light output by the light emitting unit into a plurality of channels of single-mode pump light and output the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light. The optical interface unit is connected to an optical amplifier via an optical transmission medium to provide at least one channel of single-mode pump light in the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light for a corresponding optical amplifier via the optical transmission medium.
Claims20
A pump light source, comprising:
- a light emitting unit configured to output multi-mode pump light;
- a mode converter configured to convert the multi-mode pump light output by the light emitting unit into a plurality of channels of single-mode pump light and to output the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light;
- and
- an optical interface unit configured to be connected to an optical amplifier via an optical transmission medium to provide at least one of the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light for a corresponding optical amplifier via the optical transmission medium, wherein the pump light source is positioned external of the optical amplifier.
An optical amplification system, comprising:
- a pump light source;
- an optical amplifier;
- and
- an optical transmission medium;
- wherein the pump light source comprises:
- a light emitting unit configured to output multi-mode pump light;
- a mode converter configured to convert the multi-mode pump light output by the light emitting unit into a plurality of channels of single-mode pump light and to output the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light;
- and
- an optical interface unit configured to be connected to an optical amplifier via an optical transmission medium to provide at least one of the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light for a corresponding optical amplifier via the optical transmission medium, wherein the pump light source is positioned external of the optical amplifier;
- and
- the optical transmission medium is configured to transmit to the optical amplifier the at least one channel of single-mode pump light output by the pump light source.
A method for providing pump light provided by a pump light source, the method comprising:
- generating multi-mode pump light;
- converting the multi-mode pump light into a plurality of channels of single-mode pump light;
- and
- providing at least one channel of single-mode pump light in the plurality of channels of single-mode pump light for a corresponding optical amplifier, wherein the pump light source is positioned external of the optical amplifier.
