Method and System for Outputting Diagnostic Content Based on Capability of Diagnostic Device Selected to Receive Content

A computing system comprising:

• one or more processors;
• a display;
• and
• non-transitory computer-readable memory storing executable instructions, wherein execution of the executable instructions by the one or more processors causes the computing system to perform functions including:
• receiving a vehicle identifier for determining a year, make, and model of a vehicle and a first task identifier of a task to be performed on the vehicle using a remote computing device;
• outputting, to a computer network, a first functional task setup for transmission to the remote computing device, wherein the first functional task setup includes the vehicle identifier and the first task identifier;
• outputting a first dialog on the display, wherein the first dialog indicates a test result determined by the remote computing device during performance of the task on the vehicle;
• outputting, to the computer network, a second functional task setup for transmission to the remote computing device, wherein the second functional task setup includes the vehicle identifier and a second task identifier related to a repair to the vehicle after performance of the task on the vehicle;
• and
• outputting a second dialog on the display, wherein the second dialog is indicative of a second output of the remote computing device received at the computing system, and wherein the second output of the remote computing device indicates the repair to the vehicle has been completed.
