Abstract
Described herein is a safety system that works collectively with an automated fluid drain control apparatus and systems and clinical experts to establish protocols and methods for given patient populations to ensure that the drainage of fluid from patients is both safe and effective. It further enables the transportation of drain orders from systems external to the drain system and returns to them the drainage data on a periodic basis for inclusion into the patient chart.

A method for receiving, storing, selecting, executing, and operating on a drain storage protocol, wherein the drain storage protocol is designed for volumetric drainage and/or pressure-based drainage to safely drain a plurality of body fluids from a patient's body;
- and wherein the method operates on a system, the system comprising an electromechanical drain;
- and wherein the method further comprises designing and implementing drainage protocols that allow clinicians to develop drainage safety based on patient population needs;
- the method comprising the steps of:
- on a user interface, enabling the selection of at least one of a plurality of protocol modalities, including but not limited to lumbar and ventricular drainage;
- and
- on the system, displaying a set of functions that a user can configure to customize the behaviors of the electromechanical drain.
A method for accepting an electronic drain order from a third-party system and transmitting it to an electromechanical drain, the method comprising:
- operating on an interoperable server system that can accept an electronic drain order from a third-party system;
- connecting to an electromechanical drain;
- wherein an electronic drain order is received by the server from the third-party system and transmitted to the electromechanical drain;
- whereupon the electromechanical drain validates that the electronic drain order came from the interoperable server system that had been validated, processes the order, and verifies the order is within a plurality of physical parameters of the electromechanical drain to perform;
- wherein the validated order is applied to configure the electromechanical drain;
- and
- whereupon the electromechanical drain executes the order.
A method for accepting an electronic drain order from a third-party system and transmitting it to an electromechanical drain, the method comprising:
- communicatively connecting with a third-party system;
- having a connection to an electromechanical drain;
- wherein an electronic drain order is received by the drain from the third-party system;
- wherein the electromechanical drain validates that the electronic drain order came from a validated system, processes the drain order, and verifies that the drain order is within a plurality of physical parameters of the electromechanical drain to perform;
- wherein the validated electronic drain order is applied to configure the electromechanical drain;
- and
- wherein the electromechanical drain executes the electronic drain order.
A method for sending electronic drain data to a third-party system from an electromechanical drain, the method comprising:
- having an electromechanical drain configured to monitor physical processes and record actual drain data versus desired drain behaviors;
- having an interoperable server system that can accept drain data from an electromechanical drain;
- communicatively connecting with a third-party system that can accept drain data;
- and
- wherein drain data is received by the interoperable server system from the electromechanical drain.
A method for sending electronic drain data to a third-party system from an electromechanical drain, the method comprising:
- having an electromechanical drain configured to monitor physical processes and record actual drain data versus desired drain behaviors;
- communicatively connecting with a third-party system that can accept drain data from an electromechanical drain;
- and
- wherein drain data is received by the third-party system from the electromechanical drain.
A method for comparing drain protocol safety libraries that is approved in a drain protocol safety library editor (DPSLE) and in a currently active drain protocol safety library (active DPSL) that is on a system for receiving, storing, selecting, executing, and operating on a drain storage protocol, the system comprising an electromechanical drain;
- the method comprising:
- transmitting from the system (as requester) to the DPSLE (as receiver) a request for a plurality of most recent DPSL;
- transmitting from the system to the DPSLE of a most recent known DPSL;
- the system analyzing to determine if there is a delta requiring action by the system;
- wherein if a delta is detected, the system trans DPSL to the DPSLE;
- a request for the updated
- wherein the DPSLE processes the request and transmits the updated DPSL to the system;
- and
- wherein the DPSLE processes and stores the updated DPSL.
A method for comparing drain protocol safety libraries that is approved in a drain protocol safety library editor (DPSLE) and in a currently active drain protocol safety library (active DPSL) that is on a system for receiving, storing, selecting, executing, and operating on a drain storage protocol, the system comprising an electromechanical drain;
- the method comprising:
- transmitting from the DPSLE (as requester) to the system (as receiver) a request for a current and active DPSL;
- transmitting from the system to the DPSLE of the current and active DPSL;
- the DPSLE analyzing to determine if there is a delta requiring action by the DPSLE;
- wherein if a delta is detected, the DPSLE transmits an updated DPSL to the system;
- and
- wherein the system processes and stores the updated DPSL.
A method of collecting patient demographic and clinical details and associating them with a system of the present disclosure for receiving, storing, selecting, executing, and operating on a drain storage protocol, the method comprising:
- the system communicatively connecting with a third-party system;
- the system comprising an electromechanical drain, a drain controller, a data platform, and connections therebetween;
- wherein a patient data feed is received by the data platform from the third-party system;
- wherein a user specifically associates the drain controller to the patient data feed through a manual process;
- wherein the drain controller provides clinical data back to the data platform;
- and
- wherein the data platform stores the associated patient demographics, clinical details, and drainage data, including but not limited to spectral signatures for later processing;
- together with the patient data feed and the clinical data, referred to as the data.
