Abstract
A composite media for non-oxidative C2H6 dehydrogenation comprises an aluminosilicate zeolite matrix, and an EDH catalyst on one or more of an external surface of the aluminosilicate zeolite matrix and internal surfaces within pores of the aluminosilicate zeolite matrix. The EDH catalyst comprises one or more of Fe, Zn, Pt, Ga, alloys thereof, and oxides thereof. A C2H6 activation system, and a method of processing a C2H6-containing stream are also described.
Claims20
An ethane (C2H6) activation system, comprising:
- a source of C2H6;
- and
- a reactor apparatus in fluid communication with the source of C2H6, and comprising:
- a housing structure configured and positioned to receive a C2H6-containing stream from the source of C2H6;
- and
- discrete structures within the housing structure and formulated to catalyze an ethane dehydrogenation (EDH) reaction with the C2H6 of the source of C2H6 to produce ethylene (C2H4), each of the discrete structures comprising a composite medium comprising:
- an aluminosilicate zeolite matrix;
- and
- an EDH catalyst on one or more of an external surface of the aluminosilicate zeolite matrix and internal surfaces within pores of the aluminosilicate zeolite matrix, the EDH catalyst comprising one or more of Fe, Zn, Pt, Ga, alloys thereof, and oxides thereof.

An ethane (C2H6) activation system, comprising:
- a source of C2H6;
- and
- a reactor apparatus in fluid communication with the source of C2H6, and comprising:
- a housing structure configured and positioned to receive a C2H6-containing stream from the source of C2H6;
- and
- one or more structures within the housing structure, the one or more structures comprising a composite medium comprising:
- an aluminosilicate zeolite matrix;
- an ethane dehydrogenation (EDH) catalyst formulated to promote an EDH reaction with the C2H6 of the source of C2H6 to produce ethylene (C2H4) and comprising one or more of Fe, Zn, Pt, Ga, alloys thereof, and oxides thereof;
- and
- at least one alkali metal,
- wherein the C2H6-containing stream comprises at least a portion of a C2H4-containing stream produced by the reactor apparatus.

A reactor apparatus, comprising:
- a housing structure;
- and
- one or more structures within the housing structure, each of the one or more structures comprising a composite medium comprising:
- an aluminosilicate zeolite matrix;
- a catalyst dispersed within the aluminosilicate zeolite matrix and comprising one or more of Fe, Zn, Pt, Ga, alloys thereof, and oxides thereof;
- and
- at least one alkali metal.
