A method of generating a microemulsion formation with improved solubility, comprising:

• constructing a pseudo-ternary phase diagram for at least one surfactant, at least one oil, and at least one cosolvent;
• identifying phase boundary for a self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS);
• and
• selecting the weight ratio of the at least one surfactant, the at least one oil, and the at least one cosolvent for the SMEDDS in water wherein the SMEDDS is adapted to disperse a pharmaceutically active ingredient in an aqueous solution at a concentration greater than the solubility of the pharmaceutically active ingredient alone in the aqueous solution.
