Abstract
This disclosure provides for methods and compositions for the expression and secretion of heme-containing polypeptides.

A method of expressing a polypeptide in a host cell, the method comprising:
- culturing the host cell in a culture medium,
- wherein the culture medium comprises a heme-containing polypeptide;
- and
- wherein the host cell comprises a polynucleotide encoding the polypeptide.

A method of expressing a polypeptide in a host cell, the method comprising:
- adding a heme-containing polypeptide and the host cell to a culture medium;
- culturing the host cell in the culture medium with the heme-containing polypeptide;
- and
- inducing the host cell to express the polypeptide.

A method of fermenting bacteria, the method comprising:
- combining the bacteria with a culture medium, wherein the culture medium comprises a heme-containing polypeptide;
- and
- fermenting the bacteria combined with the culture medium.
