Abstract
A sintered body of Tb-conitaining rare earth aluminum garnet represented by formula (1) (where 0 < x < 0.45, 0 < y ≤ 0.1, and 0.004 < z < 0.2), wherein: | a-b | ≤ 0.1 when at least 900 mn < λ < 1,100 nm, where, in terms of a total light transmittance spectrum on an optical path length of 24 mm, a% is the total light transmittance at the wavelength 900 mn and b% is the total light transmittance at any wavelength λ more to the long-wavelength side than 900 nm; and no thermal lensing effect is produced even with respect to a 100-W laser output, allowing for use as a Faraday rotator of a high-power fiber laser.

- (1)
- wherein 0 < x < 0.45, 0 < y ≤ 0.1, and 0.004 < z < 0.2,
- wherein when a total light transmittance spectrum is determined across an optical path length of 24 mm, the total light transmittance at wavelength 900 nm is a% and the total light transmittance at an arbitrary wavelength λ on the wavelength side longer than 900 nm is b%, the paramagnetic garnet type transparent ceramic material meets | a-b | ≤ 0.1 at least in the range:
- 900 nm < λ < 1,100 nm.
