Abstract
Manufacturing glass ceramic materials comprises ceramming a glass to grow a crystalline tungsten bronze phase comprising nanoparticles having a formula MxWO3, where M includes a dopant cation, and where 0<x<1.
Claims20
A method of manufacturing a glass-ceramic article, comprising:
- heat-treating a glass to grow crystals of MWO3, where 0<x<1 and M comprises H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, Cu, Ag, Sn, Cd, In, Ti, Pb, Bi, Th, La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, and/or U,
- wherein at least prior to the heat-treating the glass comprises, in terms of constituent oxides, SiO2, B2O3, Al2O3, WO3, and R2O, where R2O is a sum of alkali metal oxides Na2O, K2O, Cs2O, and/or Rb2O in the glass, and
- wherein the Al2O3 and R2O in mol % of the glass at least prior to the heat-treating are such that −10≤(R2O—Al2O3)≤0.1.
A method of manufacturing a glass-ceramic article, comprising:
- bleaching crystals of MxWO3 from at least a portion of a glass-ceramic article, where 0<x<1 and M comprises H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, Cu, Ag, Sn, Cd, In, Tl, Pb, Bi, Th, La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, and/or U, wherein the glass-ceramic of the article was made from a glass comprising, in terms of constituent oxides, SiO2, B2O3, Al2O3, WO3, and R2O, where R2O is a sum of alkali metal oxides Na2O, K2O, Cs2O, and/or Rb2O in the glass, and wherein the Al2O3 and R2O in mol % of the glass was such that −10≤(R2O—Al2O3)≤0.1.
A method of manufacturing a glass-ceramic article, comprising:
- heat-treating a glass to grow crystals of MxWO3, where 0<x<1 and M comprises H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, Cu, Ag, Sn, Cd, In, Tl, Pb, Bi, Th, La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, and/or U,
- wherein at least prior to the heat-treating the glass comprises, in terms of constituent oxides, SiO2, B2O3, Al2O3, WO3, and R2O, where R2O is a sum of alkali metal oxides Na2O, K2O, Cs2O, and/or Rb2O in the glass, and
- wherein after the heat-treating the glass-ceramic transmits greater than 1% of at least one 50 nm-wide wavelength band of light over a 1 mm path in a range from 400 to 700 nm.
