Abstract
Various embodiments provide a hopper railroad car top hatch cover assembly including a hatch cover and a hatch cover securer configured to secure the hatch cover in a closed position engaging a coaming of the hopper railroad car. Various embodiments provide a hopper railroad car having a top hatch cover assembly including a hatch cover and a hatch cover securer configured to secure the hatch cover in a closed position engaging a coaming of the hopper railroad car.
Claims17
A method for securing a hatch cover of a hopper railroad car top hatch cover assembly to an upwardly extending coaming on a roof of a hopper railroad car, wherein each of the hopper railroad car, the roof, and the coaming extend end to end in a longitudinal direction and side to side in a transverse direction, wherein the hatch cover is pivotally connected to the roof adjacent a first side of the coaming, and wherein a hatch cover securer is connected to the roof adjacent a second side of the coaming, the method comprising:
- moving the hatch cover from an open position in which the hatch cover is disengaged from the coaming to a closed position in which the hatch cover engages the coaming;
- and
- rotating a hatch cover engager of the hatch cover securer along a longitudinal axis that extends in the longitudinal direction from a hatch cover non-engagement position in which the hatch cover engager is disengaged from the hatch cover to a hatch cover engagement position in which the hatch cover engager is engaged with the hatch cover and secures the hatch cover in the closed position on the coaming.
A method for opening a hatch cover of a hopper railroad car top hatch cover assembly from an upwardly extending coaming on a roof of a hopper railroad car, wherein each of the hopper railroad car, the roof, and the coaming extend end to end in a longitudinal direction and side to side in a transverse direction, wherein the hatch cover is pivotally connected to the roof adjacent a first side of the coaming, and wherein a hatch cover securer is connected to the roof adjacent a second side of the coaming, the method the method comprising:
- rotating a hatch cover engager of the hatch cover securer along a longitudinal axis that extends in the longitudinal direction from a hatch cover engagement position in which the hatch cover engager is engaged with the hatch cover to a hatch cover dis-engagement position in which the hatch cover engager is dis-engaged with the hatch cover to unsecure the hatch cover from a closed position on the coaming;
- and
- moving the hatch cover from the closed position in which the hatch cover is engaged with the coaming to an open position in which the hatch cover is dis-engaged from the coaming.
