The invention contemplates certain polyethers, polyether derivatives, compositions comprising the same, and methods of making and using those same polymers.

A composition comprising a compound according to Formula I below:
- wherein R1 is optionally substituted C1-C12 alkyl;
- R2 is H, C1-20alkyl, aryl, aryl-C1-2 alkyl, optionally unsaturated alkyl esters or aryl esters, or R2 is a moiety:
- wherein X is a diacyl moiety of formula —C(O)—R3—C(O)—, wherein R3 is optionally
- substituted C1-22 alkyl, optionally substituted C2-22 alkenyl or optionally substituted aryl;
- and wherein n is an integer between 0 and 10 (e.g., 0 to 4);
- and wherein the number average or weight average molecular weight of the compounds of Formula I in the composition, exclusive of the group R2, is 150 to 2000 Daltons (e.g., 300 to 800 Daltons) and/or wherein the polydispersity (Mw/Mn) of the compounds of Formula I in the composition (without taking into account the group R2) in the range of 1 to 5.

- R4 is selected from Si(C1-4alkyl)3, —C(O)—R5, —C(O)-A-C(O)—R5, -A-C(O)—R5, and A-O—R5;

- R4 is selected from hydrogen, Si(C1-4alkyl)3, —C(O)—R5, -C(O)-A-C(O)—R5, -A-C(O)—R5, and -A-O—R5;
- R5 is selected from hydrogen, OH, substituted or unsubstituted C1-22alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted C2-22alkenyl, substituted or unsubstituted C2-22alkynyl, substituted or unsubstituted C6-10aryl, or wherein R5 is a moiety:
- A is selected from substituted or unsubstituted C1-20alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted C2-12alkenyl, substituted or unsubstituted C2-12alkynyl, substituted or unsubstituted C3-12cycloalkyl, and substituted or unsubstituted C6-10aryl;
