Abstract
A marine seismic acquisition system includes a frame that includes a central longitudinal axis and members that define orthogonal planes that intersect along the central longitudinal axis; a data interface operatively coupled to the frame; hydrophones operatively coupled to the frame; a buoyancy engine operatively coupled to the frame where the buoyancy engine includes at least one mechanism that controls buoyancy of at least the frame, the hydrophones and the buoyancy engine; and at least one inertial motion sensor operatively coupled to the frame that generates frame orientation data, where the hydrophones, the buoyancy engine and the at least one inertial motion sensor are operatively coupled to the data interface.

A system, comprising:
- a multi-dimensional seismic sensor array configured to couple to a marine vessel, wherein the multi-dimensional seismic sensor array comprises:
- a frame comprising a plurality of members;
- a plurality of nodes coupled to the frame, wherein each of the plurality of nodes comprises one or more seismic sensors configured to acquire seismic survey data, wherein the plurality of nodes and the frame are arranged to define a multi-dimensional geometric structure comprising a first plane and a second plane, wherein the first plane and the second plane are parallel to each other and separated by at least a portion of the plurality of members, wherein a first set of nodes of the plurality of nodes are positioned in the first plane and comprise at least two nodes perpendicular to each other, wherein a second set of nodes of the plurality of nodes are positioned in the second plane and comprise at least two nodes perpendicular to each other;
- and
- a processor configured to receive the seismic survey data and calculate pressure gradients in multiple directions based on the seismic survey data.
A method, comprising:
- receiving, via a processor, seismic survey data acquired from a multi-dimensional seismic sensor array, wherein the seismic survey data comprises pressure associated with a pressure wavefield;
- and
- calculating, via the processor, pressure gradients in a plurality of directions based on the seismic survey data, wherein the pressure gradients include one or more partial derivatives of the pressure with respect to one or more directions of the plurality of directions, or a second derivative of the pressure.
