Abstract
A system is described. The system includes a first region and a second region. The first region is configured to retain particles and has a first characteristic dimension. The second region is communicatively coupled with the first region such that the particles can travel between the first region and the second region. The second region has a second characteristic dimension of not larger than twice a characteristic length for the particles. The second region has a barrier that offers resistance to or interruption in particle movement.

A system, comprising:
- a first region configured to retain particles and having a first characteristic dimension;
- and
- a second region communicatively coupled with the first region such that the particles can travel between the first region and the second region, the second region having a second characteristic dimension of not larger than twice a characteristic length for the particles;
- wherein the second region includes a barrier to the travel of the particles from or to the first region.
A system, comprising:
- a first region configured to such that particles therein are in a regular state;
- and
- a second region communicatively coupled with the first region and configured such that the particles in the second region are in a nonchaotic state.
A method, comprising:
- providing an apparatus including a first region and a second region, the first region being configured to retain particles and having a first characteristic dimension, the second region being communicatively coupled with the first region such that the particles can travel between the first region and the second region and having a second characteristic dimension of not larger than twice a characteristic length for the particles;
- and
- providing the particles in the apparatus.
