A brake assembly that includes a brake pad assembly, a pad spring, and a sensor unit. The brake pad assembly includes friction material disposed on a backplate. The pad spring is mounted to the backplate. The sensor unit straddles the backplate and extends from the backplate to the pad spring.

- a brake pad assembly that includes friction material disposed on a front side of a backplate;
- a pad spring that is mounted to the backplate;
- and
- a sensor unit that straddles the backplate and that extends from the backplate to the pad spring.
