Abstract
A lightweight thermal barrier panel and anchor assembly for installation on a new or existing building envelope is disclosed. The system includes a modular panel with an infill barrier and structural anchors. The anchors are attached to the new or existing building envelope on at least one side of the building envelope to receive the thermal barrier panel to create an air cavity between the panel and the building envelope. The thermal barrier panel framing includes openings within rigid framing members to promote ventilation of the air cavity to the at least one side of the thermal barrier panel.

A lightweight thermal barrier panel and anchor assembly for installation over a new or existing building envelope assembly to create an air cavity between said thermal barrier panel and building envelope assembly, comprising:
- a stretched transparent, translucent, or opaque membrane infill barrier comprising;
- a non-combustible membrane material with at least a first and second side with a plurality of perimeter edges;
- and
- a rigid panel frame assembly with at least a first side and second side comprising;
- a plurality of framing assembly members wherein said framing assembly members are disposed and affixed to adjacent framing assembly members of the plurality of framing assembly members through mechanical fixity resulting in a plurality of edges of said panel frame assembly wherein the framing assembly members comprising;
- at least one mullion or transom member comprising;
- a rigid material with a cross-sectional geometry wherein:
- at least one groove or surface is configured to receive and affix the infill barrier with at least one pressure fitting;
- and
- at least one groove or surface of the member to receive a buffer gasket to separate the infill barrier from the framing assembly member;
- and
- at least one groove or surface to engage fastening mechanism to join adjacent mullions or transom members from the plurality of said framing assembly members;
- and
- at least one groove or surface to engage at least one anchor member of an anchor assembly;
- and
- with said mullion or transom member having at least one groove or surface for engaging a perimeter trim member;
- and
- at least one of the framing assembly members of said panel frame assembly having at least one penetration through said framing assembly members to vent across at least one side of said thermal barrier panel to at least one side of said thermal barrier panel;
- and
- at least one pressure fitting comprising;
- a rigid material with cross sectional geometry that enables the pressure fitting to affix at least one edge of the infill barrier to at least one groove or surface of at least one framing assembly member;
- and
- at least one perimeter trim member comprising;
- a non-combustible rigid material with a cross sectional geometry wherein;
- at least one surface or groove is configured to receive at least one perimeter sealing gasket;
- and
- at least one surface or groove is configured to receive at least one mullion or transom member of said framing assembly members;
- and
- at least one perimeter sealing gasket comprising;
- a flexible material with a cross sectional geometry wherein:
- at least one edge of said perimeter sealing gasket is configured to receive the perimeter trim member;
- and
- at least one surface is configured to engage an opposing surface or opposing perimeter sealing gasket of a at least one perimeter edge of an adjacent thermal barrier panel or at least one surface or edge of the building envelope assembly to create an air seal;
- and
- an anchor assembly configured to attach at least one edge of one or more thermal barrier panels to at least one side of the building envelope assembly to form an air cavity between the thermal barrier panel and said building envelope assembly, wherein:
- the anchor assembly comprising at least two anchor members made of a rigid material wherein:
- at least one anchor assembly comprising;
- at least two anchor members made of a rigid material;
- and
- at least one said anchor member receives and affixes at least one framing assembly member of said thermal barrier panel to at least one side or edge of the building envelope assembly and said anchor member may be configured to promote the movement and operation of the thermal barrier panel relative to one side of the building envelope assembly for access to the air cavity defined by at least one side of the thermal barrier and at least one side of the building envelope assembly;
- and
- at least one anchor member configured to promote the securing of the panel assembly in the closed position wherein the thermal barrier panel encloses said air cavity;
- wherein
- the a singular or plurality of thermal barrier panels are disposed and attached to at least one side of the building envelope assembly by the anchor assembly such that the thermal barrier panel creates an air cavity between at least one side of the thermal barrier panel and at least one side of the building envelope assembly and said penetration through at least one mullion or transom member of the panel assembly framing promotes air to transfer from the air cavity to the opposing side of the thermal barrier panel.
A method for installing a lightweight panelized thermal barrier panel for installation over a new or existing building envelope assembly to create an air cavity between said thermal barrier panel and building envelope assembly, comprising:
- at least one anchor member fastened to at least one side of the building envelope such that the thermal barrier panel receives said anchor member and affixes the anchor member to a groove, slot, edge or surface of the thermal barrier panel to at least one side of the building envelope, wherein:
- at least one thermal barrier panel over at least one side of a new or existing building envelope assembly such that the thermal barrier panel creates an air cavity between at least one side of the thermal barrier and at least one side of the building envelope assembly, wherein:
- the perimeter sealing gaskets and closure baffle engage the at least one surface or edge of said building envelope or at least one side or edge of adjacent thermal barrier panel to promote the perimeter sealing gasket to seal said air cavity.
