Abstract
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) includes lift rotors and control rotors. The lift rotors are mounted to the UAV and oriented to provide a first vertical thrust to the UAV. The control rotors are mounted to the UAV outboard of the lift rotors and oriented to provide a second vertical thrust to the UAV. The control rotors are each smaller than any of the lift rotors.
Claims21
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), comprising:
- a fuselage;
- fixed wings extending out from either side of the fuselage, wherein the fixed wings have aerodynamic shapes that generate lift during a forward cruise flight;
- a horizontal propulsion system oriented to provide a forward thrust;
- and
- a vertical propulsion system including:
- lift rotors each mounted to a corresponding one of the fixed wings on respective sides of the fuselage and oriented to provide a first vertical thrust to the UAV;
- and
- control rotors mounted to the UAV via the fixed wings outboard of the lift rotors and oriented to provide a second vertical thrust to the UAV, wherein the control rotors are each smaller than any of the lift rotors.
5 more elements
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) comprising:
- lift rotors mounted to the UAV and oriented to provide a first vertical thrust to the UAV;
- and
- control rotors mounted to the UAV outboard of the lift rotors and oriented to provide a second vertical thrust to the UAV, wherein the control rotors are each smaller than any of the lift rotors.
