Method for checking an exhaust gas system in a vehicle, and control unit for performing the method

A method for checking an exhaust gas system in a vehicle, a control unit in the vehicle being configured to receive data from sensors of the vehicle and send out control commands to final control elements of the vehicle, the control unit being in communication connection with an external computer located outside of the vehicle, the method comprising the following steps:

• causing, by the external computer, the control unit to make an active intervention in the exhaust gas system by actuating the final control elements of the vehicle, the control unit receiving sensor data from the exhaust gas system after actively intervening, and forwarding the received sensor data to the external computer;
• and
• based on the sensor data from the sensors, the external computer rating the exhaust gas system as “OK” or “manipulated”.
