Abstract
The disclosed embodiments relate to the electronic communication of messages via a communications network reflective of substantially continuously updated data in an electronic transaction processing system. The disclosed embodiments conserver electronic communications resources, e.g. bandwidth, while preserving real time delivery of critical data via selective or conditional publication and transmission of messages.
Claims29
A computer implemented method for transmitting one or more reporting messages to a plurality of market participants via an electronic communications network when available bandwidth thereof is less than a threshold bandwidth amount, the one or more reporting messages each comprising data generated when a current state of an electronic marketplace changes and stored in a memory to await transmission, the method comprising:
- determining, by a processor coupled with the memory, whether a dynamic condition for transmission of the stored data has been satisfied, the dynamic condition being satisfied by any of a plurality of factors meeting a threshold value determined at the time of the identifying;
- and
- wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has not been satisfied, causing, by the processor, the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising the stored generated data to not be transmitted until the available bandwidth of the electronic communications network exceeds the threshold bandwidth amount and causing, by the processor, repeating, for a subsequent change in the current state of the electronic marketplace, the determining wherein if any subsequently generated data is determined to be an update to any of the previously generated data stored in the memory, the previously generated data is replaced thereby in the memory;
- wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has been satisfied, causing, by the processor, the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising at least a subset of the stored data to be transmitted to the plurality of market participants via the electronic communications network regardless of the available bandwidth thereof being less than the threshold bandwidth amount, the transmitted subset being subsequently removed from the memory.
A system for transmission of one or more reporting messages to a plurality of market participants via an electronic communications network when available bandwidth thereof is less than a threshold bandwidth amount, the one or more reporting messages each comprising data generated when a current state of an electronic marketplace changes and stored in a memory to await transmission, the system comprising:
- first logic stored in a memory and executable by a processor to cause the processor to determine whether a dynamic condition for transmission of the stored data has been satisfied, the dynamic condition being satisfied by any of a plurality of factors meeting a threshold value determined at the time of the identifying;
- and
- second logic stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the processor to, wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has not been satisfied, cause the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising the stored generated data to not be transmitted until the available bandwidth of the electronic communications network exceeds the threshold bandwidth amount and cause, for a subsequent change in the current state of the electronic marketplace, execution of the first logic wherein if any subsequently generated data is determined to be an update to any of the previously generated data stored in the memory, the previously generated data is replaced thereby in the memory;
- third logic stored in the memory and executable by the processor to cause the processor to, wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has been satisfied, cause the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising at least a subset of the stored data to be transmitted to the plurality of market participants via the electronic communications network regardless of the available bandwidth thereof being less than the threshold bandwidth amount, the transmitted subset being subsequently removed from the memory.
A system for transmitting one or more reporting messages to a plurality of market participants via an electronic communications network when available bandwidth thereof is less than a threshold bandwidth amount, the one or more reporting messages each comprising data generated when a current state of an electronic marketplace changes and stored in a memory to await transmission, the system comprising:
- means for determining whether a dynamic condition for transmission of the stored data has been satisfied, the dynamic condition being satisfied by any of a plurality of factors meeting a threshold value determined at the time of the identifying;
- and
- wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has not been satisfied, means for causing the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising the stored generated data to not be transmitted until the available bandwidth of the electronic communications network exceeds the threshold bandwidth amount and means for causing, for a subsequent change in the current state of the electronic marketplace wherein if any subsequently generated data is determined to be an update to any of the previously generated data stored in the memory, the previously generated data to be replaced thereby in the memory;
- wherein if it is determined that the dynamic condition has been satisfied, means for causing, by the processor, the one or more electronic reporting messages comprising at least a subset of the stored data to be transmitted to the plurality of market participants via the electronic communications network regardless of the available bandwidth thereof being less than the threshold bandwidth amount, the transmitted subset being subsequently removed from the memory.
