A system that uses 3D scanning and a process agnostic pointing device that is used in conjunction with user input to create a robot program.

A teaching system comprising:
- a workpiece;
- a 3D scanning device operable for scanning objects;
- a 3D scan of the workpiece created by the said 3D scanning device;
- a process agnostic pointing device whose pose is trackable;
- a storage means for storing one or more elements of robot program information input by a user via the said process agnostic pointing device;
- and
- a computation device configured to define instructions for a robot based on the said 3D scan of the workpiece and the said one or more elements of robot program operation information input by a user via the said process agnostic pointing device.
