Abstract
A display device may include a display panel including an active area displaying an image and a peripheral area surrounding the active area, pad parts disposed on a side surface of the display panel, a light blocking layer disposed on a portion of the peripheral area adjacent to the side surface of the display panel, and circuit units electrically connected to the pad parts.

A display device comprising:
- a display panel including:
- an active area displaying an image;
- and
- a peripheral area surrounding the active area;
- a first light blocking layer disposed on a portion of the peripheral area adjacent to a first side surface of the display panel;
- and
- an upper polarizing film disposed on the display panel and covering a portion of the first light blocking layer, wherein
- a first absorption axis of the upper polarizing film is parallel to a first direction, and
- the first side surface of the display panel is spaced apart from the upper polarizing film in the first direction in a plan view.

A method of manufacturing a display device, the method comprising:
- forming a display panel including an active area and a peripheral area surrounding the active area;
- and
- forming metal layers on a first side surface of the display panel and a portion of the peripheral area adjacent to the first side surface.
