Performing contention resolution for system information requests

An apparatus, comprising

• a memory;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to cause the apparatus to:
• receive a system information block comprising minimum system information associated with a cell;
• determine, via a higher layer of the apparatus, at least one required system information of a set of required system information associated with the cell in response to the received system information block;
• initiate, via a lower layer of the apparatus, a random access procedure, to obtain the at least one required system information, using a random access preamble and a random access resource associated with the at least one required system information;
• and
• initiate, via the lower layer of the apparatus, the random access procedure after obtaining the at least one required system information, to obtain at least one other required system information.
