Abstract
Methods and apparatus in a multi-carrier cellular wireless network with random access improve receiving reliability and reduce interference of uplink signals of a random access, while improving the detection performance of a base station receiver by employing specifically configured ranging signals.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- transmitting, by a device in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) cellular system, a ranging signal via a non-contiguous subset of blocks of a ranging subchannel comprising a plurality of contiguous blocks, each block comprising a plurality of consecutive subcarriers,
- wherein an inter-block frequency spacing between each pair of blocks of the ranging subchannel is different than the inter-block frequency spacing between each other pair of blocks of the ranging subchannel;
- and
- transmitting, by the device, data over a subchannel comprising at least the plurality of contiguous blocks of the ranging subchannel.

A device in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) cellular system, comprising:
- a transmitter, configured to transmit a ranging signal via a non-contiguous subset of blocks of a ranging subchannel comprising a plurality of contiguous blocks, each block comprising a plurality of consecutive subcarriers,
- wherein an inter-block frequency spacing between each pair of blocks of the ranging subchannel is different than the inter-block frequency spacing between each other pair of blocks of the ranging subchannel;
- and
- wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit data over a subchannel comprising at least the plurality of contiguous blocks of the ranging subchannel.
