System and method for interleaved media communication and conversion

A network communication node for communicating a plurality of different types of media over a communication network, comprising:

• at least one processor configured to:
• obtain a plurality of different types of media by a receiver communicatively coupled to said communication network, wherein the plurality of different types of media is received as a single data stream including an interleaved sequence of data elements, wherein each of said data elements includes data of one type of medium of said plurality of different types of media;
• enable a user to select one data element;
• access the selected data element directly, without reading any data element preceding the selected data element;
• and
• provide the selected data element to the user.

A computer program product embodied on a non-transitory computer readable medium, including instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

• obtaining a plurality of different types of media by a receiver communicatively coupled to said communication network, wherein the plurality of different types of media is received as a single data stream including an interleaved sequence of data elements, wherein each of said data elements includes data of one type of medium of said plurality of different types of media;
• enabling a user to select one data element;
• accessing the selected data element directly, without reading any data element preceding the selected data element;
• and
• providing the selected data element to the user.
