Abstract
Materials and methods for using genistein to treat respiratory distress syndrome or acute lung injury (e.g., pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, dyspnea, pneumonia, and/or pulmonary edema resulting from viral infection, including SARS-CoV-2 infection) are provided herein.

A method for reducing pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, dyspnea, pneumonia, and/or pulmonary edema in a mammal identified as being infected or having been infected with a coronavirus, the method comprising administering to the mammal a composition comprising genistein in an amount effective to reduce pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, dyspnea, pneumonia, and/or pulmonary edema in the mammal.
