Abstract
Provided is a magnetic tape device including: a magnetic head having a magnetic element that acts on a magnetic layer formed on a front surface of a magnetic tape; and a position adjusting actuator that adjusts a position of the magnetic element in a normal direction of the front surface by moving the magnetic head; and a processor that controls an operation of the position adjusting actuator.

A magnetic tape device comprising:
- a magnetic head having a magnetic element that acts on a magnetic layer formed on a front surface of a magnetic tape;
- and
- a position adjusting actuator that adjusts a position of the magnetic element in a normal direction of the front surface by moving the magnetic head;
- and
- a processor that controls an operation of the position adjusting actuator.

A method of operating a magnetic tape device, comprising:
- adjusting a position of a magnetic element of a magnetic head in a normal direction of a front surface of a magnetic tape by controlling an operation of a position adjusting actuator to move the magnetic head;
- and
- causing the magnetic element to act on a magnetic layer formed on the front surface.
