Communication Operations in a Shared Spectrum

A method for wireless communication at a base station, the method comprising:

• transmitting a configured uplink grant to a device for semi-persistent uplink transmissions via a serving cell;
• transmitting a timer configuration for a retransmission timer associated with the configured uplink grant to the device;
• and
• transmitting a downlink transmission burst within a next-generation NodeB fixed frame period associated with a configuration of the next-generation NodeB fixed frame period, the downlink transmission burst being transmitted not later than a time gap threshold prior to a configured uplink transmission when the device is expected to determine if the base station has initiated a channel occupancy time prior to the configured uplink transmission.

A device for wireless communication, the device comprising:

• a transceiver configured to:
• receive a configured uplink grant from a base station for semi-persistent uplink transmissions via a serving cell;
• receive a timer configuration for a retransmission timer associated with the configured uplink grant;
• receive a configuration of a next-generation NodeB fixed frame period for semi-static channel access in a shared spectrum;
• detect a downlink transmission burst within the next-generation NodeB fixed frame period associated with the configuration;
• obtain a medium access control protocol data unit for a configured uplink transmission of the semi-persistent uplink transmissions, the configured uplink transmission including at least a first physical uplink shared channel transmission;
• and
• a communications manager configured to establish that a hybrid automatic repeat request process associated with the first physical uplink shared channel transmission is pending so as to preclude performance of the first physical uplink shared channel transmission in response to determinations that the first physical uplink shared channel transmission is associated with a next-generation NodeB channel occupancy time, there is a time gap between the downlink transmission burst within the next-generation NodeB channel occupancy time, and the first physical uplink shared channel transmission is smaller than a time gap threshold.
