The present invention relates to peroxiredoxin 6 or a synthetic analogue thereof for use as a hypoglycaemic agent, for example in the treatment of diabetes, such as type 1 diabetes mellitus and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

A method of treating diabetes mellitus, the method comprising administering to a patient peroxiredoxin 6 or a synthetic analogue thereof.
A method of treating obesity, the method comprising administering to a patient peroxiredoxin 6, a synthetic analogue thereof or a pharmaceutical composition comprising peroxiredoxin 6 and/or a synthetic analogue thereof as an active ingredient, together with one or more excipients and/or adjuvants, for use in therapy for obesity.
