Abstract
Embodiments of the disclosure are directed towards a composite stiffener that is incorporated into panelized products to create stronger bonding, greater adhesion between laminated layers and less warping sandwich panels. In addition, the resulting products incorporating composite stiffeners can be lightweight, yet stronger than other lightweight panels.
Claims19
A composite stiffener to be inserted into other products (panels, posts, and beams used as examples) during manufacture comprising:
- set of strengthening strips, each strengthening strip comprised of laminated metal and wood or wood and fiberglass.
- and a core having a plurality of sides, wherein the strengthening strips are bonded to at least two of the plurality of sides of the core.
A composite stiffener comprising:
- a set of strengthening strips, each strengthening strip comprising an anti-warp composite material;
- a set of inner laminated layers;
- and a core having a box-like grid structure, wherein each inner laminate layer is bonded to one of at least two of the plurality of sides of the core and each set of strengthening strips is bounded to an outer side of each of the inner laminate layers.
A composite panel comprising:
- a plurality of composite stiffeners, wherein each composite stiffener comprises a set of strengthening strips and a core having a plurality of sides, wherein each strengthening strip comprises a wood/metal laminated strengthening material and the strengthening strips are bonded to at least two of the plurality of sides of the box-like core.
A composite beam comprising:
- a plurality of composite stiffeners stacked on top of each other to create a desired length, wherein each composite stiffener comprises a set of strengthening strips and a core having a plurality of sides, wherein each strengthening strip comprises an anti-warp material. and the strengthening strips are bonded to at least two of the plurality of sides of the core.
Composite stiffeners are used to create a lightweight, high strength, effectively stiff material which possesses the ability to accommodate unsupported spans of length with little or no deflection.
Composite stiffeners combat the natural inclination of surface materials, such as natural wood grain materials, to warp.
