Virtualization-based collaborative activity framework with predictive preloading of virtual machines

A computer-implemented method comprising:

• in response to a determination that a first client device is predicted to access a particular activity, and before a request the particular activity is received:
• creating, by an activity system, a virtual machine instance configured to provide the particular activity;
• and
• loading, by the activity system, a virtual machine image configured for the particular activity to the virtual machine instance;
• and
• in response to obtaining, by the activity system, an indication to load the virtual machine instance with the particular activity:
• providing, by the activity system, a reference to the virtual machine instance.

A system comprising one or more computers and one or more storage devices storing instructions that when executed by the one or more computers cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:

• in response to a determination that a first client device is predicted to access a particular activity, and before a request the particular activity is received:
• creating, by an activity system, a virtual machine instance configured to provide the particular activity;
• and
• loading, by the activity system, a virtual machine image configured for the particular activity to the virtual machine instance;
• and
• in response to obtaining, by the activity system, an indication to load the virtual machine instance with the particular activity:
• providing, by the activity system, a reference to the virtual machine instance.
