Abstract
In one aspect, a method of determining a parameter of a fastener includes providing an input to an ultrasonic transducer of a transducer arrangement, wherein the transducer is attached to a fastener and the input results in the transmission of an ultrasonic wave into the fastener. A transducer output is received, which is indicative of a reflected ultrasonic wave received by the transducer. The transducer output is compared to known data for the parameter to determine whether the parameter of the fastener is within a predetermined range.
Claims26
A method of determining a parameter of a fastener, comprising:
- providing an input to an ultrasonic transducer of a transducer arrangement, wherein the transducer is attached to a fastener and the input results in the transmission of an ultrasonic wave into the fastener;
- receiving a transducer output from the ultrasonic transducer, the transducer output being indicative of a reflected ultrasonic wave received by the ultrasonic transducer;
- and
- comparing the transducer output to known data for the parameter to determine whether the parameter of the fastener is within a predetermined range.

A method of determining a parameter of a fastener, comprising:
- providing an input to a plurality of ultrasonic transducer elements of a transducer arrangement, wherein the transducer elements are attached to a fastener and the input results in the transmission of a plurality of ultrasonic waves into the fastener from the transducer elements;
- receiving the reflected ultrasonic waves by the transducer elements and
- determining a stress profile for the fastener on the basis of the received reflected ultrasonic waves.
A method of determining a plurality of calibration plots for use in determining a parameter of a fastener, comprising:
- measuring, for a plurality of fasteners, the parameter under different conditions wherein the different conditions comprise a plurality of tensioned length to total length for each of the plurality of fasteners.
