Abstract
The present disclosure provides a lubricating composition or grease and methods of making and using the same. The lubricating composition or grease includes a sulfonated lignin and a lubricant comprising a soap thickener and a base oil.

A lubricating composition comprising:
- a lubricant comprising a soap thickener and a base oil;
- and
- a sulfonated lignin.
A method of preparing a lubricating composition, the method comprising:
- adding a sulfonated lignin to a lubricant having a base oil and a soap thickener;
- and
- mixing the sulfonated lignin and the lubricant.
