Abstract
The present invention provides for methods of obtaining an extract of Cannabis plant material as well as subsequent processing of the extract to provide a concentrate of Cannabis. The present invention also provides for pharmaceutical dosage forms (e.g., oral thin films and transdermal patches) that include the concentrate (or extract) of Cannabis, as well as methods of medical treatment that include administering the pharmaceutical dosage forms.
Claims1
A process for obtaining one or more extracts of cannabis, the process comprising:
- (a) contacting cannabis with carbon dioxide (CO2) as the sole supercritical fluid solvent:, at a pressure of at least 74 bar and at a temperature of at least 31° C., for a period of time of up to about 8 hours, to provide an extract of cannabis;
- (b) repeating, one or more times, step (a), to obtain multiple extracts of cannabis;
- (c) removing the supercritical fluid solvent from the multiple extracts of cannabis;
- and
- (d) isolating cannabinolds from one of the extracts of cannabis and isolating terpenes from another extract of cannabis to yield (i) an extract of cannabis enriched with cannabinolds and (ii) an extract of cannabis enriched with terpenes.
