Abstract
An aluminum nanoparticle adjuvant carrier system with stabilizing surface coatings that can efficiently deliver protein or nucleic acid antigen payloads to naive, resident APCs is disclosed.

A nanoparticle comprising an alum core and a coating, wherein the nanoparticle has a number average size between about 20 nm and about 300 nm and a polydispersity index between about 0.1 to about 0.3.
A method for preparing an alum nanoparticle, the method comprising admixing alum with a protein in a flash nanocomplexation apparatus.
