Abstract
The invention relates to a glenoid (shoulder socket) implant prosthesis, a humeral implant prosthesis, devices for implanting glenoid and humeral implant prostheses, and less invasive methods of their use for the treatment of an injured or damaged shoulder.
Claims20
A method of treating a patient, comprising the steps of:
- identifying a patient having a glenoid surface;
- surgically exposing the glenoid surface,
- reaming a circular cavity into the glenoid surface;
- and
- inserting a glenoid implant into the cavity, the medial aspect of the implant having a circular geometry complimentary to that of the reamed bone cavity, such that at least a portion of a circular peripheral edge of the implant resides below the adjacent glenoid surface and the portion residing below the adjacent glenoid surface is circumferentially surrounded by cortical bone of the glenoid.
2 more elements
A glenoid implant, comprising:
- a circular body, having a medial surface, an articulating surface, a peripheral edge, and a central axis;
- a post on the medial surface, disposed concentrically on the central axis;
- and
- at least one axially extending flange extending from the medial surface at the peripheral edge of the circular body.
1 more element
A glenoid implant, comprising:
- a circular body, having a medial surface, an articulating surface, a peripheral edge, and a central axis;
- a post on the medial surface, disposed concentrically on the central axis;
- and
- a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees;
- wherein the first thickness is at least about 125% of the second thickness.
