## Abstract

A network device (e.g., a server, a domain name system (DNS) server, a DNS over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) server (DoH server), a network management device, etc.) may determine a time duration, such as a time duration, based on a request for a communication session from a device. In response, the network device may determine a modified time duration for the communication session based on a type of the device, type of user associated with the device, and/or type of an application requesting the communication session.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
receiving, for a first communication session, a first request for a network address, wherein the first communication session is associated with a time duration;
based on the first request for the network address, determining a modified time duration;
sending a response to the first request for the network address, wherein the response comprises an indication of the modified time duration; and
establishing, based on a request for a second communication session, the second communication session, wherein the communication session is based on the modified time duration.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the network address facilitates access to at least one of a service, content, or a resource.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein determining the time duration comprises:
determining that the first request is an initial request for the communication session; and
determining, based on the first request being the initial request, the time duration.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first request indicates a device type, wherein determining the time duration comprises determining, based on the device type, the time duration.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first request comprises Domain Name System over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (DoH) requests.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the response to the first request comprises a Domain Name System over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (DoH) 302 response.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein a Transport Layer Security (TLS) timeout value of the request for the communication session indicates the time duration.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the communication session is based on Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving a second request for another network address; and
sending, based on the second request for the another network address and the time duration being active, the another network address, wherein the another network address facilitates access to at least one of a service, content, or a resource.

### Claim 10

A method comprising:
sending, based on a first communication session, a first request for a network address, wherein the first communication session is associated with a time duration;
receiving, based on the first request for the network address, an indication of a modified time duration;
establishing, based on the modified time duration, a second communication session; and
receiving, based on the second communication session and a second request for the network address or another network address, the network address or the other network address.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the modified time duration is based on a request for the communication session being an initial request for the first communication session.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein a request for the first communication session indicates at least one of a device type or a device location, wherein the modified time duration is based on at least one of the device type of the device location.

### Claim 13 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the first request comprises Domain Name System over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (DoH) requests.

### Claim 14 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein receiving the modified time duration comprises receiving a Domain Name System over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (DoH) 302 response comprising the modified time duration.

### Claim 15 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein a Transport Layer Security (TLS) timeout value of the first request for the communication session indicates the modified time duration.

### Claim 16 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, wherein the communication session is based on Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.

### Claim 17 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, further comprising:
sending a request for another network address; and
receiving, based on the request for the another network address and the time duration being active, the another network address, wherein the another network address facilitates access to at least one of a service, content, or a resource.

### Claim 18

A method comprising:
receiving, based on a first communication session associated with a time duration, based on a request for a network address, a response comprising an indication of a modified time duration;
establishing, based on the modified time duration, a second communication session;
idling after the second communication session is established and longer than the time duration; and
receiving, based on the second communication session, the network address or another network address, wherein the network address or the other network address facilitates access to content.

### Claim 19 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18, the response comprising the indication of the modified time duration comprises a Domain Name System over Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (DoH) 302 response.

### Claim 20 (depends on 18)

The method of claim 18, wherein a Transport Layer Security (TLS) timeout value of the request for the second communication session indicates the modified time duration.
