Claims20
A method for preparing a compound of formula (I) or formula (II);
- wherein:
- each q is independently an integer selected from the group consisting of 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8;
- each n is independently an integer from 1 to 500;
- each m is independently an integer from 1 to 1000;
- X and X′ are each independently hydrogen or methyl;
- Y is a hydrogen or an isobutyl group;
- Y′ is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C12 straightchain or branched alkyl, chloroalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, (dimethylamino)alkyl, (diethylamino)alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl, and naphthyl;
- or a stereoisomer thereof;
- the method comprising:
- (a) contacting BN 2-vinylnaphthalene (BN2VN), or a derivative thereof, with methyl methacrylate (MMA), or a derivative thereof, in the presence of an initiator to form a first intermediate;
- and
- (b) oxidizing the first intermediate to form a compound of formula (I) or formula (II).

- wherein:
- q is an integer selected from the group consisting of 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8;
- x is an integer from 1 to 500;
- y is an integer from 1 to 1000;
- z is an integer from 1 to 1000;
- X and X′ are each independently hydrogen or methyl;
- Y is a hydrogen or an isobutyl group;
- Y′ is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, C1-C12 straightchain or branched alkyl, chloroalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, (dimethylamino)alkyl, (diethylamino)alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl, and naphthyl;
- or a stereoisomer thereof.
