## Abstract

Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a first user equipment (UE) transmits a request to perform a positioning procedure to at least one second UE over a sidelink between the first UE and the at least one second UE, receives, from the at least one second UE over the sidelink, an indication of a set of time resources, frequency resources, or both allocated for the positioning procedure, and transmits at least one positioning reference signal on the set of time and/or frequency resources allocated for the positioning procedure. The second UE receives the request to perform the positioning procedure from the first UE over the sidelink, transmits the request to a base station, receives, from the base station, an indication of the set of time and/or frequency resources allocated for the positioning procedure, and transmits the indication to the first UE over the sidelink.
