## Abstract

An image processing apparatus comprises a changing unit configured to change a display area of an image from a first display area to a second display area including at least a portion of the first display area, an acquiring unit configured to acquire a first value indicating luminance, in which brightness contrast is considered, in an image displayed in the first display area and a second value indicating luminance, in which brightness contrast is considered, in an image displayed in the second display area, and a correcting unit configured to correct luminance of the image displayed in the second display area based on the first value and the second value that are acquired by the acquiring unit.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An image processing apparatus comprising:
at least one processor or circuit configured to function as:
a changing unit configured to change a displayed image from a first image to a second image, wherein the first image includes a first area and a second area of a captured image obtained by image capturing and the second image includes the first area of the captured image but does not include the second area of the captured image;
an acquiring unit configured to acquire a first value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the first image and a second value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the second image, wherein the influence of the brightness contrast corresponds to a perceived amount of brightness of an object region based on brightness of a surrounding region of the object region in the first image and the second image; and
a correcting unit configured to correct luminance of the second image based on the first value and the second value that are acquired by the acquiring unit.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the at least one processor or circuit is configured to further function as a generation unit configured to generate a first brightness perceptual image with respect to the second image based on a luminance signal of the first image, and generate a second brightness perceptual image based on a luminance signal of the second image,
wherein the generation unit generates the first brightness perceptual image and the second brightness perceptual image based on human characteristics of perceiving brightness, and
the acquiring unit acquires the first value based on the first brightness perceptual image, and acquires the second value based on the second brightness perceptual image.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first value is an average value of signal values of the first brightness perceptual image, and the second value is an average value of signal values of the second brightness perceptual image.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the first value is a median value of signal values of the first brightness perceptual image, and the second value is a median value of signal values of the second brightness perceptual image.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the at least one processor or circuit is configured to further function as a determining unit configured to determine a gain for correcting the luminance based on the first value and the second value.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the gain is a ratio between the first value and the second value.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the correcting unit corrects the luminance by multiplying a luminance signal of the second image by the gain.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the determining unit calculates a gain for correcting a dark portion of the second image based on the first value and the second value.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein, when the first image is to be recorded after trimming, the luminance of the second image is not corrected.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the first image is an HDR (high dynamic range) image.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The image processing apparatus according to claim 10, wherein the at least one processor or circuit is configured to further function as a developing unit configured to generate the HDR image by developing a RAW image.

### Claim 12

An image processing method comprising:
changing a displayed image from a first image to a second image, wherein the first image includes a first area and a second area of a captured image obtained by image capturing and the second image includes the first area of the captured image but does not include the second area of the captured image;
acquiring a first value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the first image and a second value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the second image, wherein the influence of the brightness contrast corresponds to a perceived amount of brightness of an object region based on brightness of a surrounding region of the object region in the first image and the second image; and
correcting luminance of the second image based on the first value and the second value that are acquired in the acquiring.

### Claim 13

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program for causing a computer to execute each step of an image processing method, the method comprising:
changing a displayed image from a first image to a second image, wherein the first image includes a first area and a second area of a captured image obtained by image capturing and the second image includes the first area of the captured image but does not include the second area of the captured image;
acquiring a first value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the first image and a second value indicating luminance, in which influence of brightness contrast is considered, in the second image, wherein the influence of the brightness contrast corresponds to a perceived amount of brightness of an object region based on brightness of a surrounding region of the object region in the first image and the second image; and
correcting luminance of the second image based on the first value and the second value that are acquired in the acquiring.
