Abstract
Antimicrobial animal bedding includes a base textile material and a halo active aromatic sulfonamide compound of Formula (I): wherein the variables M2, X, and M are disclosed herein. The resulting animal bedding product maintains antimicrobial properties over extended time periods.

An antimicrobial bedding product for animals, comprising:
- a textile base material;
- and
- a halo active aromatic sulfonamide compound of Formula (I):
- wherein M2 is hydrogen, an alkali metal, or an alkali earth metal;
- X is halogen, and M is independently an alkali or alkaline earth metal.

A method for using an animal bedding product, comprising:
- permitting an animal to lie upon or within the animal bedding product;
- wherein the animal bedding product comprises a textile base material and a halo active aromatic sulfonamide compound of Formula (I):
- wherein M2 is hydrogen, an alkali metal, or an alkali earth metal;
- X is halogen, and M is independently an alkali or alkaline earth metal.

A method of preparing animal bedding to have extended antimicrobial killing performance, the method comprising:
- treating the animal bedding with an active composition comprising a halo active aromatic sulfonamide compound, wherein the halo active aromatic sulfonamide compound has a chemical structure according to Formula (I):
- wherein M2 is hydrogen, an alkali metal, or an alkali earth metal;
- X is halogen, and M is independently an alkali or alkaline earth metal.
