## Abstract

According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus includes a first substrate, a second substrate opposed to the first substrate, a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate, an active area in which pixels are arranged, and a peripheral area positioned in a periphery of the active area. The peripheral area includes a drive element area in which a drive element configured to drive each of the pixels is arranged.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An electronic apparatus comprising:
a first substrate;
a second substrate opposed to the first substrate;
a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate;
an active area in which pixels are arranged; and
a peripheral area positioned in a periphery of the active area, wherein
the peripheral area includes a drive element area in which a drive element configured to drive each of the pixels is arranged.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The electronic apparatus of claim 1, wherein
the drive element area includes:
scan lines extending in a row direction and aligned at intervals in a column direction crossing the row direction;
signal lines extending in the column direction and aligned at intervals in the row direction;
a gate driver connected to one end of each scan line;
a source driver connected to one end of each signal line;
switching elements connected to the other end of each scan line and the other end of each signal line, and arranged in an area surrounded by two adjacent scan lines and two adjacent signal lines; and
connecting lines connecting each switching element to each pixel.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The electronic apparatus of claim 2, wherein the number of the switching elements arranged in the drive element area is equal to or more than the number of the pixels arranged in the active area.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The electronic apparatus of claim 3, wherein
the pixels and the switching elements are both arranged in a matrix, and
the number of rows of the pixels and the number of rows of the switching elements are different, and the number of columns of the pixels and the number of columns of the switching elements are different.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The electronic apparatus of claim 4, wherein
the number of rows of the switching elements are greater than the number of rows of the pixels, and
the number of columns of the switching elements are greater than the number of columns of the pixels.

### Claim 6 (depends on 2)

The electronic apparatus of claim 2, wherein the connecting lines are formed of a transparent conductive material.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The electronic apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a light source arranged in the peripheral area and arranged in a position opposed to a side surface of the second substrate, wherein
the liquid crystal layer includes a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

A display device comprising:
an electronic apparatus of claim 1;
a liquid crystal display panel disposed on the electronic apparatus; and
a backlight disposed on a back surface of the electronic apparatus.
