Equipment and method for forming a front toothing on an inner ring of a wheel hub

A method for forming by plastic deformation a front toothing on an inner ring of a wheel hub, the method comprising:

• forming on one end of the inner ring of the wheel hub a swaged annular collar with a first radial profile;
• plastically deforming the collar in order to realize frontally thereon the front toothing by axially and sequentially impressing on the collar a plurality of cutters guided axially slidably through a rigid plate, which, before impressing the cutters on the collar, is brought into frontal abutment against the collar;
• characterized in that it also comprises a step of containment of any possible radial plastic flow of the metallic material forming the collar, the containment step being carried out simultaneously with the plastic deformation of the collar following an axial movement of the cutters relative to the plate, by providing on a face of the plate directed towards the collar a concave annular seat having a second radial profile configured to copy at least partly the first radial profile of the collar;
• the annular seat being configured to be passed through by the cutters during the impression of the cutters against the collar.
